They are learning how to live in bodies that no longer feel like home.
They are learning how to trust their own breath again.
They are living with schizophrenia, severe mental illness, trauma, disability, and life after incarceration.
They are people who have been separated from society and quietly forgotten.
The Last Lane exists for the people who were never given a safe place to return to.
We teach swimming not as a sport.
We teach it as a way back into the body.
A way back into breath.
A way back into trust.
We give people a place to stand in deep water without drowning.
THE LAST LANE
A place to breathe again
Some people are not having a hard time.
They are surviving.
They are waking up in white rooms.
They are counting days in concrete rooms.
They are learning how to live in bodies that no longer feel like home.
They are learning how to trust their own breath again.

OUR MISSION
To provide free swim based safety and healing programs for people living with severe mental illness, homelessness disability, trauma, and those returning to life after incarceration.
We work with individuals who have spent time in isolation, hospitals, institutions, and correctional systems.
We focus on breath, floating, water confidence, and nervous system calm.
We believe access to water safety and peace should not depend on money, diagnosis, or past history.
WHO WE SERVE
People living with severe mental illness
People returning to society after incarceration
People living with physical disability and limb loss
People who have experienced long term isolation
People rebuilding life after trauma
Those who have been pushed to the last lane of life
WHY THIS MATTERS
Some people are taught how to swim as children.
Some people are taught how to survive.
People living with menatl illness and people returning from incarceration are more likely to be isolated from public life, excluded from safe spaces, and denied access to healing environments.
They are more likely to be treated as a risk instead of a human being.
They are more likely to be left alone with their fear.
The Last Lane exists to give them back a place to breathe.
WHAT WE NEED
We are currently seeking community pools, aquatic centers, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, correctional re entry programs, and schools willing to donate scheduled pool time.
We are also seeking instructors and volunteers who can serve people with patience, calm, and respect.
